Submission services/software

As a resource center I will now explain what kind of services that you have to help you getting your website submitted to the search engines.

There are three ways to submit your website:

Should you do this manually?

There are many websites on the internet were you can submit your website to a number of search engines, you got to remember that you will have to type everything in yourself, and that is no problem if you only have a few pages in your website. Because it isn't enough to just submit your index page you must submit every page on your website.

But if you have many pages then this would take to much time and to much money to do so, therefore you should use both a submission software and do some manual submissions if you are planning on building a big website (my website has about 250 pages on it). I use these services when I am submitting my website, and I do that once a month:

- ROIbot, this one covers everything that you ever need to automate your crucial marketing efforts, and well it costs a little money every month but I get 1000 times (at least) more back.

- ineedhits.com, check them out and see if this is what you need.

- And so that I really cover everything I use Submit Wolf by Trellian Software. You can download a trial version from their websites

What kind of website hosting should you have?

Some will tell you that you can use free webhosts and that they are as good as your own domain name, well I won't tell you what you must have but I will point out some issues that you must consider when you are planning your online business.

What about the free webhosting

First of all it is free, sure but you have to show a banner on top of every page and those banner will not give you any money. They are also sometimes revolting to even look at (that is what I think), but on a few times I have click on a banner but they are really few. Here you have my own list of advantage and disadvantage in this subject (please note that this is what I think, you may think different)

Advantage:

- Free

- Free e-mail address, some of the webhosts supplies you with a free web based e-mail address

Disadvantage:

- Banners

- Difficult to understand their terms and agreements

- Some of the major search engines will not index a free website address, this along should make you think twice about setting up a free website, it is a real bummer

- You cannot have your own cgi/perl scripts

- LOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGG URL, your website address will be to long to even remember

- Some free webhosts does not allow you to sell anything on your website

- Almost all of the free webhosts do not support database driven websites, or PHP

This is why you should go with your own domain

An Internet domain name is a one-of-a-kind web address that you can purchase for your web site through Internic, the organization in charge of domain name registration. It could contain your business name: http://www.yourbusinessname.com, or most any other word/letter combination that you want, based upon availability. For example, after much brainstorming, I decided on http://www.tugoh.com as my domain name. You may not have considered the benefits that having your own domain gives you, so I'll list some major ones and then we'll look at each more closely:

1) Gives Exclusivity.

2) Adds Credibility.

3) Allows Mobility.

4) Avoids Loss of Momentum.


Gives Exclusivity

Without your own domain, you don't have much of a choice, your email and web addresses will generally be based on the domain name of your host or Internet service provider, such as <username@yourISP.com> and <http:www.yourISP.com/username/>.

But having your own domain name is like owning your own virtual real estate, your own slice of cyber turf, if you will. Such exclusivity can help build name recognition for you and your company.


Adds Credibility

As the saying goes: "You never get a second chance to make a first impression", and in business, first impressions count. Having your own domain name projects a professional image of you and your company, normally associated with large companies. 

It tends to say to others that you're a serious business person, operating an established business, in a professional manner (even if you're operating out of your bedroom at home, much of the time in your P.J.'s, but regardless of your dress, you should still conduct your business in a serious, professional manner).
